Backstory

“What does my name mean?”
“It means something that burns bright.”
Koh was born in Gridania after their parents moved out of Ul’dah. A simple and carefree life thanks to her parents’ artisan professions. And yet she sought more out of life, trying her best to reach something that always seemed out of her reach...In secret Koh trained to be a Lancer, while their mother taught them about carpentry and forestry. Their father had been an alchemist back in the desert city-state of Ul’dah, as such Koh learned to read and make poultices, things they could use in their mission to be a Wood Wailer. They wanted to go beyond their woods some day. The cuts and scraps that Koh would bring back home made their parents act; 17 summers was a good time to make an arranged marriage to keep the young Miqo’te from getting into more problems. The two had heard stories and rumors about their daughter’s plan to be a lancer, but that stubbornness and determination to walk her own path would undoubtedly (in their parents’ eyes) be her own downfall.Koh, late into the autumn season, packed their bags in the dead of night and snuck away after meeting what felt like their 10th suitor. They escaped with their freedom intact and took what little experience and combat training and managed to make it all the way to Ul’dah. As much as it would have been preferable to use a sword and shield for caravan guarding, Koh fought with all their heart as a Lancer. It was hard work, but even harder still getting into the city of Ul’dah after a year. Running around as a courier some days had its ups and downs inside the city, and once being of age Koh offered what little botany and alchemist services they had to pleasure houses. In exchange the Miqo’te had a permanent place to sleep in and heard stories that the courtesans would tell during breaks. The stories fueled their desire to travel again. The wanderings during their days off led them to the Thaumaturges’ Guild and that was that. Koh found a calling for magicks that let them travel past Ul’dah and they were determined to reach new heights and adventures with it. During those younger years, Koh was as brilliant as a comet with fire magic and unfortunately very stubborn. Wanting to prove themselves, they went out with a small party to investigate the disappearance of some folks in the Deepwoods. It felt strange coming back home to the forests of Gridania after so long.Sadly it was a homecoming met with fear and danger, as the group encountered the Lambs of Dalamud. Living sacrifices and terrifying voidsents tested the party inside Tam-Tara Deepcroft. The young mage came back with one other survivor shaken and terrified, refusing to speak about what happened. Whispers of voidsent soon followed in the wake of their re-appearance back in Ul'dah. The Miqo’te changed in demeanor; their voice was as soft as a whisper and took great care in making sure to conceal themselves, and shortly became obsessed with the idea of being a Black Mage; to the point of driving them to commit a taboo. They hid their sin behind an eye-patch. Their body showed their folly plain, scars and burn marks along with dark ashen skin and sometthing like ink that stained the skin, they covered themselves up to hide it. The black sclera of their eyes concealed with glamour... acting as if nothing bad happened. In truth the Black Mage's soul stone they had stolen cracked in their pursuit of power driven by fear, and Koh was determined to mend it.Koh became obsessed with tracking and disposing of voidsent, convinced it would be enough to mend their stone. Till one day their connection to magic just stopped altogether. Frustrated, it pushed the Miqo’te to the wintery and harsh city of Ishgard to try and recover (after being found by a patrol unit near the gates passed out in the snow), but just mentioning anything relating to dark magics was heresy in there. Not wanting to sit around and do nothing they offered their lancer service to fight off whatever dragons and wyrms plagued the area and became a Dragoon through service after some years. That had an unintended effect, Koh in time grew to love and care for the dragons but even that friendship couldn’t repair the state of their cutoff from magic. When the Dragonsong War came Koh fought to protect innocent folks in the Brum, fearing that they'd cross paths with old friends on the field. Still all that pain and sacrifice wasn't enough to mend the mage's stone once the war was over. Then, one day during what should’ve been a routine hunt turned perilous. 'I want to live...' that simple thought made fire come alive in their hands.
As cliche as it was, it was the will to live that mended the soul stone and brought back their spark.
Still, despite all that there are moments when Koh can feel themselves slipping. Headaches out of nowhere, voices of those long dead, everyone says its stress. Maybe a vacation is in order...They live in Ishgard permanently and walk around town from time to time or help those that come visit their apothecary. Anything really to keep from going restless, otherwise they wander in the late night hours. Koh's even taking up a greatsword to try and "spice things up".

"Let my Darkness be a Light for others."

"Koh" is actually a shortened form of their name. They don't like giving it out and they don't like talking about their past for a myriad of reasons, and they prefer to keep it that way.
That being said they will not hesitate to help anyone that asks for it, within reason.
Koh loves plants, and animals and has a fondness for the little wolf pup they rescued, and the tadpole they once caught on a fishing trip.
Given enough time, Koh is actually a silly cat and loves to dance.
They're a cat of very few words, just be ready to lean in and pay attention when they have something to say.

RP HOOKSWORK IN PROGRESS, more to comeThe Viper and Its Prey
It was a simple job, kill the mage and get paid. Luckily for you she had been looking for help in gathering plants. Not that it mattered, but it was curious. The fact that it was in Garlean territory of all places was perplexing. For measly plants?
And yet, that first night the two of you shared a fire inside a little cave, it gave you pause. A night terror, she was having a hard time sleeping. You could see the tired expression in her eyes as she smiled at you and decided to make a simple broth to warm the bones a little.
It didn't matter, right? A job was a job, and yet the two of you were coming back to Uldah to fulfill the contract for a merchant. Still no closer to finishing yours.
You told yourself it was because you were sizing her up, she was a mage, a strong one. But the scars on her body told a different story...
For this one I left it vague enough because I do want to talk out some details about like the contract and what not. Koh's got a lot of skeletons in their closet and some traumas, they're not perfect. This one would be 18+ in terms of mature themes.
I'm a big fan of assassin's falling in love with their contracts. It'd mostly be about two tortured souls finding solace in one another. A long drawn out romance, maybe smut? Also some voidsents sprinkled here and there.
A drinking buddy
Gridania... for Koh it brought back a lot of memories of first loves and happier times, and yet it felt like it sealed her fate all those years ago. She flipped through one of her old journals she had found in her storage, old memories coming back. A brief moment of pain making her stop, pressing a hand against the eyepatch on her left eye until it passes. Another drink's needed.
You find an empty table and sit down after a hard day's work of adventuring until a voice makes you look up. "Sorry... uh, do you mind if I sit here?" A miqo'te with an eyepatch and a staff, a scar across her face, and apparently a journal she had been reading was on the table you had failed to notice.
"I could leave if you..."
"No, no. I could use a drinking buddy." She let out a small chuckle and sat down. "My name's Koh, what's yours?"
random
Chances are that if you live in Ishgard, or wandering around long enough you'll find this miqo'te up to their ears with plants, and cuts and bruises. If you're lucky, they'll invite you to some tea.

  • Non-binary/Transmasc leaning

  • Traditional & Digital Artist

  • lover of fantasy and romance

  • playing ffxiv for MSQ and making friends

  • welcomes 18+ rps

Guidelines

  • DISCORD ONLY

  • 21+ ; even if it never gets into ERP territory (i don't feel comfortable rping with anyone younger)

  • 3rd person past tense only

  • Multiparagraph, mutual character development

  • slice of life weaved into longer term situations

  • semi-lore friendly (I'm not the best well read on the lore of 14)

  • Please note that while I do sometimes ERP, I'm not living vicariously through my character; whatever Koh does means nothing outside of IC content.

I don't really RP in game so much, it's all through discord.Moon user~Feel free to just WU/tell. I LOVE brainstorming with people and the hooks I have posted don't have to be the only ones. Most of what I like to write is dark/angsty and a slow-burn romance. Some of it is also silly, lol.I don't have the RP tag on mostly because I'm just working on MSQ stuff (still working on getting to Dawntrail) and crafting/gathering.I love making friends though! Especially art buddies :DIf you want an RP buddy and also do non-rp things like running PvE content and msq progression I'm always down! I like just making friends.
